Adventure Riding in Canada & Alaska — A New Photobook by Olivier de Vaulx

Upshift contributor and adventure photographer Olivier de Vaulx has released his second photobook, Adventure Riding in Canada & Alaska, a stunning visual journey through some of North America’s most remote and captivating landscapes.

Many readers will recognize Olivier’s name — his long-format travel features have been a staple on Upshift, bringing to life the essence of adventure riding across continents. With this new book, he continues that storytelling tradition in a beautifully tangible form.

A 9,000-Mile Solo Ride into the Wild

The concept for Olivier’s second photobook came from a 9,000-mile solo ride across western Canada and Alaska — a personal journey that became something much more. “I went there to get away from the buzz of the city,” Olivier explains. “Instead, I found a pristine wilderness full of surprises. Photographing grizzly bears from a motorcycle may sound crazy, but once I saw the images, I knew I had to share them.”

A Tribute to the North

More than a ride report, Adventure Riding in Canada & Alaska is a celebration of wild places too often described as empty or monotonous. Printed in a wide panoramic format, the book captures the immense scale of the northern frontier with rich color and depth.

“The book isn’t about my trip,” says Olivier. “It’s about showing the beauty of the land — to inspire people to go experience it for themselves.”

Adventure for All

Olivier’s first book about the American West found unexpected success not only among riders but with families and nature enthusiasts as well. This new volume expands on that appeal, balancing motorcycle travel with intimate wildlife and landscape photography.

From bald eagles to bears, lynx to caribou, every photo was shot authentically — from the bike or the roadside — capturing what it truly feels like to explore the North on two wheels.

“It’s as real as it gets,” Olivier says. “Everything you see in the book is something you could see yourself if you went there.”

Analog Adventure in a Digital Age

In a time when most travel stories live on screens, Olivier’s work stands out for its commitment to the printed image — something permanent, tactile, and immersive. His first book’s success, including a full reprint, proved that readers still value the slower, more meaningful connection of print.

Adventure Riding in Canada & Alaska continues that mission, combining evocative photography, personal perspective, and high-quality design in a coffee-table format worthy of any rider’s collection.
