The upcoming Hells Canyon BDR-X  is a 520-mile off-pavement motorcycle loop that circumnavigates Hells Canyon, the deepest river gorge in North America. At 7,993 feet deep, Hells Canyon is nearly 2,000 feet deeper than the Grand Canyon. The route traverses both the Oregon and Idaho sides of the Snake River, connecting more than ten spectacular viewpoints and historic fire lookouts overlooking the canyon.

Riders will descend from high canyon rims to the river below before climbing back into mountain forests, experiencing elevation changes of more than 5,000 feet. Along the way, they’ll encounter diverse landscapes, changing climates, and remote backcountry roads that showcase one of the most rugged and awe-inspiring regions in the American West.

The Hells Canyon BDR-X was developed with support from the Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative, AllTerra by Alpinestars, and onX Offroad.

Yamaha’s Outdoor Access Initiative Grant to BDR

We are proud to announce that BDR has been awarded a $45,000 grant from the Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative (OAI) to support the development and long-term stewardship of three new BDR-X routes across the western United States.

The grant will support the creation and ongoing management of the upcoming Hells Canyon BDR-X in Idaho and Oregon, the Red Desert BDR-X expansion in Wyoming, and the Grand Staircase BDR-X in Utah.

Funding will help cover route scouting and verification, the development of free GPS tracks, maps, and travel resources, ongoing route maintenance and updates, and collaboration with land managers to help ensure riders have safe, responsible access to public lands. Together, these projects will expand opportunities for adventure motorcycling while helping preserve access for future generations.

Since its founding in 2008, the Yamaha Outdoor Access Initiative has supported hundreds of projects across the United States that improve access to public lands for responsible outdoor recreation through education, stewardship, and sustainable trail and route development.
